Qualifiers for Inter-local Govt school game begin in Kwara

• As Olokuta JSS, C&S College clinch tickets for Ilorin East LG

An inter-school football game for public junior secondary schools in the sixteen local governments of Kwara state has commenced on Friday with qualifying matches between selected schools in Ilorin East local government areas.

The game, which is designed for male and female categories, is being organized by the Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs).

In the male category, the Cherubim and Seraphim (C&S) Junior Secondary School in Sabo-oke clashed with Akerebiata Junior Secondary School, where the former qualified after a penalty shootout.

Olokuta Junior Secondary School in Oke-oyi scaled through the female category after beating its rival, Cherubim and Seraphim Junior Secondary School, Sabo-oke with 5 against 0.

Speaking at the end of the two matches, Executive Chairman, Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Prof Sheu Raheem Adaramaja, lauded the participating schools for excellent performance,

He congratulated the winners from both male and female categories, saying the motive behind hosting the game was not lost.

The Chairman, who was represented at the event by the Director of Quality Assurance Alhaji Abdullateef Adebimpe idiagbon, said the motive behind hosting the inter-school game was to foster physical and mental fitness of the students.

He commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for reviving school game and doing everything possible to keep the students physically and mentally fit, recalling that the government recently distributed sports kits across public schools in the state.

Prof Adaramaja said the present administration has not only heavily invested in school infrastructure and human capital development to aid teaching and learning, but is also bent on bringing back the physical education in schools because of its health benefit for pupils/students.

He also thanked the Ilorin East Local Government Education Authority and their teachers and non-teaching staff in the affected schools for their outstanding contributions to the success of the game at that level.

Sports co-ordinator for Kwara SUBEB, Mr Ibrahim Gafar was part of the agency's delegation that watched the two matches.
